Seth Troxler has garnered a cult following amongst electronic music fans. This project, Lost Souls of Saturn, is his most experimental yet. Working with Producer and Engineer, Phil Moffa, Lost Souls of Saturn is a self-titled album inspired by space, sci-fi and mysticism – taking reference from NASA research to the work of author Philip K Dick. The eponymous transmission was originally released on R&S Records in June 2019.

Challenging the convention of ‘format’ in every sense, HS collaborated closely with LSOS and Technology Consultant, Andrew Melchior, to create an album campaign in which music and visuals are released through the combined use of augmented reality and physical objects. Overseeing all aspects of this multi-dimensional project, HS designed every layer from the initial LSOS identity, to the AR experience itself.

The campaign was broken down into a series of component parts:

Music was initially available as a digital download, 12” LP and 38 page codex. The hero artefact which appears on the front cover was later released as a 3D printed object. Each of these ‘formats’ in turn acted as a visual trigger for the LSOS App – a free download for IOS or Android. By pointing the device at either the cover image or the object, the user could gain access to exclusive, hidden content. The concept was extended into a four week outdoor campaign that ran across five major cities in the UK.

As part of our ongoing exploration of the format through which music is released and consumed, LSOS is an open invitation for fans to interact with a visual world and experience an artist’s music in new ways.
